In spite of the frustrations and the corruption that seems to thrive in Haiti, there are still stories of hope; stories that shed light and bring hope to the many that are still living amidst the rubble. By God's grace, Hopegivers has been an agent in bringing that hope to many who are suffering. Through our many ministry partners in Haiti, Hopegivers has provided food, clean water, scholarships to refugee children, medicine, and other critical supplies to the tens of thousands still suffering from the aftermath of the January earthquake. All of this is being done through the local church which opens the door for the Gospel to be heard.
However, we at Hopegivers know that these things, while good, are only the beginning of what is needed. To continue our commitment to serve those affected by the earthquake, God has given us the ability to construct four orphan homes in areas outside of Port Au Prince. Presently, these homes now house many who have been serving the orphaned children in Haiti since before the earthquake. Because their previous buildings were either seriously damaged or destroyed, these people were also forced to live in dangerous tent encampments along with the children they were serving. But now these four homes house eight children - each also housing their Hope Home leaders. Our prayer is that the Lord will bless them and help them raise these children up as Arrows for God - the hope for the world.

The city of Gonaives, Haiti, located just 60 miles north of Port Au Prince was spared from the ravages of the recent earthquakes that devastated the area in and around the capital. However, in the aftermath of the destruction, Gonaives - home to 300,000 - has received a flood of refugees fleeing from the destruction and despair caused by the earthquake. Most of the refugees coming into the city have no money, resources, no place to stay, and no plan. They arrive as a people in great need whose sole purpose was to leave what they saw as a hopeless tomb.
Learn how Hopegivers is partnering with a group of 200 doctors who will be leaving for Haiti this afternoon to assist primarily with medical care. In addition, they have purchased 24,000 bottles of water, along with food, medicines and other supplies which they will be bringing with them and distributing in the coming days.
A major earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the capital of Haiti, Port Au Prince, on January 12, 2010, bringing untold devastation to the city and surrounding areas. Hopegivers is in the process of assessing any damage and casualties to the ministries we work with in Haiti and determining the best direction for relief and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.

Many of us have made mud pies as kids for fun, but few if any have had to eat them to survive! There’s been a lot of coverage in the press recently about people actually eating dirt for survival in Haiti as a result of the desperate poverty. The people are so hungry, they’re actually mixing up dirt, salt, and vegetable shortening for consumption and calling them “dirt cookies.”
Recently, our Haiti girls entered a local show where they boldly sang songs of praise to our Lord in front of a large crowd. After winning second place, they took home a prize for their great performance. But it's not what they did to win second prize that amazes us, but rather what they chose to do with their reward.
All of us here at Hopegivers are feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and revitalized--ready to help rescue, restore and redeem more people in need in 2008! A team of two visited Hopegivers' Haiti project over the Thanksgiving weekend and returned with some exciting news and updates...
This week we received word from an elated Pastor Willio regarding some very exciting news at the Haiti project. Thanks to a donation from a USA partner church, his ‘School on the Rock' now has a much larger building to call home for this year. So much larger in fact that enrollment for the coming school year has nearly doubled to 823 students!
Only July 3, we received a heart-wrenching report from our beloved Hope Home in Haiti. Six gunmen stormed into the orphanage in the evening, demanding money. They forced our lead pastor to the ground and held his head down with their feet. After that they beat him and harassed some of the terrified kids and took all their money on hand ($700 US).

What effect does nine new kids have on the Haiti orphanage besides cramped conditions? Find out.
Recently, Pastor Willio (Haiti) wrote to tell of a violent man who stormed into the orphanage with a knife, threatening to kill one of the children. One of the things we love about Willio is how protective and devoted he is to the kids. To him they are not just kids he rescued off the streets...they are his kids.
