A major earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the capital of Haiti, Port Au Prince, on January 12, 2010, bringing untold devastation to the city and surrounding areas. Hopegivers is in the process of assessing any damage and casualties to the ministries we work with in Haiti and determining the best direction for relief and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.
Many governments and large disaster response organizations, such as the Red Cross, are already on the ground undergoing initial search and rescue and relief efforts. However, once initial efforts have been expended there will be an even greater need of reconstruction and recovery. In order to be prepared to quickly and adequately respond to the drastic needs we have set up a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund and we encourage Hopegivers donors to give generously during this incredible tragedy and to continue in prayers for all of the children who have lost mothers and fathers, and families that are experiencing great suffering and loss at this time. Pray that we can help and serve those who are suffering now and continue to suffer in the future due to their great loss.
