Dowry Castaways

"A bruised reed He will not break..." Isaiah 42:3

In February of 2011, Hopegivers began a ministry to care for Dowry Castaway women (burn victims) and their abandoned children. Abused by her husband and in-laws in order to force additional dowry out of her parents, a young woman is set on fire by her disenchanted husband when additional dowry is not forthcoming. The motivation behind this practice? With his wife dead and their children kicked out of the house, he can keep the previous dowry and he and his parents become free to find another wife with a larger dowry. Hopegivers is presently taking care of 19 of these young women and over 30 of their children. The need is to support the children in a Hope Home where they are fed, sheltered and educated as arrows for Christ. Their mothers, for the time they survive after being released from the hospital, need care for their personal needs and ongoing medical attention to prevent the danger of infection.

Barely hanging onto life, their children abandoned to the streets, our Lord wants to keep this "dimly burning wick" from being extinguished for all eternity.
