INITIAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE:

  • RELIEF FROM THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Hopegivers is working with a partner church in the Dominican Republic to provide food, water, medical supplies, and doctors to those in Haiti impacted by the quake. Just a few days after the quake, a team of doctors from the Dominican Republic had already established a clinic to serve those injured in the quake. Within one week after the quake, two additional teams of doctors had been sent down into Haiti and were serving in the field. 24,000 bottles of water, food, and supplies have been brought into Haiti from the Dominican Republic for those affected by the quake.
  • RELIEF FROM WITHIN HAITI: Hopegivers' partner in Haiti, Living Hope Mission, has sent truckloads of food and supplies into Port Au Prince from the northern part of Haiti. They began sending relief in  just two days after the earthquake. We will be working through Living Hope Mission, and our other "in country" churches and partners to continue to serve those in need.

Your donations allow Hopegivers to continue to serve our brothers and sisters in Haiti in the following ways:

LONG-TERM RESPONSE:

  •  RECONSTRUCTION: Countless homes were lost, churches destroyed, and children orphaned in this disaster. The long-term response to this disaster must be strategic, committed, and coordinated. Hopegivers will work with other ministries, churches, and government organizations to serve in whatever way is needed with the resources that have been given to us.
  • EFFECTS OF POPULATION REDISTRIBUTION: The long-run effects of this earthquake have yet to be seen. We fully expect this to change the population dynamics of the entire country as people begin fleeing the Port Au Prince area for other parts of Haiti. This migration of refugees is already occurring and our partners in the field report that it is increasing daily. This will mean that many existing churches, schools, and orphanages  will require expansion, new construction and other support in order to serve the growing populations in their areas.
  • ORPHANED CHILDREN: No one knows how many children have been orphaned in the earthquake. Many children on the streets have been displaced from parents who have been injured or who have just been  separated due to all the confusion after the disaster. Macro level efforts are in place due to the U. S. Government. They are attempting to identify these children and reunite them with their parents once they are found. Children who have been orphaned, but who have living relatives that can and will care for them will also be reunited. However, MANY children will have nothing and no one when all the dust settles. These children will need a home, a "family," an education, and so much more. Hopegivers International will seek to meet this need by partnering with existing churches, organizations, and orphanages to care for these children. Where the need is beyond what exists , Hopegivers will partner with local churches and start new orphanages in order to care for these children.
