Alone on the Streets...

Amrutha

Amrutha, 12--Homeless by age two, Amrutha seemed destined for a short, empty and tragic life. Both of her parents died when she was two, and no one stepped up to take in the little girl. Her dad was beaten to death and her mom died from an illness within the span of a year.

After their untimely deaths, Amrutha was dropped off at a local homeless shelter and it was there that she grew up. Amrutha lived on the streets, somehow managing to survive. Many beggars would often use her, claiming she was their child, thus increasing their chances of receiving more alms. As for Amrutha, she received just enough to survive.

From ages 2-11, she begged, sifted through garbage, and scrounged up whatever food items she could find in order to get by. Her grandma, who learned of her whereabouts, finally intervened in the tragic situation and brought Amrutha to a home in '05 when she heard about Jasmine 3.

After a brief adjustment period--she had only ever known the freedoms of street life--Amrutha has taken to her new home very well. She greatly enjoys her life here, and has even come to appreciate the discipline and structure of Hope Home living. She also notes that she enjoys the security, care, singing, dancing, and spiritual guidance she receives here. Amrutha is working hard towards her dream of one day becoming a singer. This little girl is no longer alone on the streets thanks to help from Hopegivers sponsors.
