Joshna (L), 11, Rochna, 7 (R)--Pastor Doni's first rescued child (Palm 1) , Joshna came to the home in November '02 when an Orissa pastor told him the poor young girl. She was an orphan from a small village and was living in miserable, poverty-stricken circumstances. Though she spoke a different language, was used to different customs and pretty much came from another world, Joshna was happy to have a new safe place to call home.
When she first came to the home, she used to pray every night in her mother tongue of Oriya. Doni had no idea what she was praying about. It turns out she was praying that God would bring her little sister to live with her at the Hope Home.
Her grandmother was keeping Rochna somewhere back in Orissa, but they had no clue how to find her. Doni ached because he so badly wanted to grant this wish for Joshna, but he knew the odds of finding Rochna were slim to none. He had barely known this pastor from Orissa and had no way to get in touch with him.
Several months later, on another mission trip to Orissa, Doni entered a coffee shop as he was preparing to head back home. In a miraculous show of "God-timing", guess who strolled into the shop. It was the pastor who brought Joshna to him! Ecstatic and a bit shocked, Doni asked the man if he could take him to Joshna's home village and off they went.
They found Rochna and her grandmother in the same pitiable situation as before. Their clothes were torn and tattered and Rochna appeared to be in bad shape. Pastor Doni explained how well Joshna was doing in the new home and about her desire to be with her sister. The grandma knew the child would be much better off in a place where all her needs would be met, but she insisted on going with them to inspect the home.
You can imagine the look on Joshna's face when Pastor Doni rolls up in the driveway not only with Rochna but her grandmother as well!
Joshna's prayer was answered in a miraculous and wonderful way, and today the sisters are happy, healthy and studying very well. They tell us in unison that they want to become doctors so they can help other people who are hurting. What a great testament to God's faithfulness and care!
