Behind every Hope Home, worship center, school and humanitarian outreach we support is a faithful, hard-working pastor. Almost all of the pastors we support graduated from one of the 108 Hopegivers-sponsored Bible Colleges throughout India.
Note: some names have been changed for security reasons.
Toni, Northeast
Toni works in a tribal, rural area and oversees 8 fellowships with
120 believers. He went several months without support during the turbulent year of 2007, but still managed to feed the 61 children in his Hope Home. He has endured intense opposition to his work; please pray for him as he faithfully perseveres.
Madu, Northwest
Madu works in a volatile district. In 2006, he helped train 132 pastors and baptized 150
people. Madu spent one year in jail until he was
vindicated of all charges brought against him. Because
of his witness and positive attitude in jail, eight people came to know the Lord. He's now gone to share the good news
with those men's families (at their behest) and many of them now know the Lord.
Kavi, Northwest
Kavi was the first Bible College graduate of the ministry way back in 1982. He now runs an excellent school with 97 students and 13 teachers. He also has a fellowship with 45 believers that dedicate every Friday to fasting prayer. Please pray for all his outreaches' many needs.
Vinod, Southeast
Pastor Vinod had a very successful career as a government employee, but came to know
the Lord and began serving Him full time in 75'. He always had a special burden for the
children, and has become endeared by his
neighborhood for his good work. Though hostile at first, his village saw the great care the kids were receiving and now they are very helpful. He started a Hope Home in 00' with
20 children, but it has since grown to accommodate 68. His fellowship has
grown and many have been blessed because of this work.
Rajeev, Southeast
Rajeev began a Hope Home in 01' with 10 children after graduating in 99' from a HG-sponsored Bible College. While he was studying, he was inspired by the Oleander 3 Hope Home
(and Dr. M.A. Thomas) and decided he wanted to start a Hope Home in order to serve children. He and his new wife (married in 2007) want to take in more kids, but they need more land and a bigger building
as some kids are currently sleeping in the worship center. Rajeev's mom is currently the
only helper--cooking and cleaning for 20 kids. Rajeev chose this work over a
promising career as an engineer. He will soon begin a Bible College and also runs a worship center with 70 believers and oversees another with 20. He asks
for prayers for his kids' good health and good studies.
Sandeep, Southeast
Sandeep has been ministering at the Jasmine 1 slum outreach for 3 years now, since graduating from Bible College in 02'. There are currently 20 believers in his fellowship. This
area is his choice of ministry--he chooses to live amongst the poorest of the
poor. "So many here are suffering greatly without food, medicine or clean water," he says. There are around 5,000
residents in the slum along with 10 HIV-affected families. Sandeep is doing his best to reach people through education and aid distribution, but he lacks the support to do this on a regular basis. He wants to start a school and Hope Home to help break this cycle of poverty.
Ajay, Southeast
Ajay
works in a rural area near Banyan 2 Hope Home .
He graduated from a local Bible College in 98' and currently leads a
fellowship of 25 believers. Their current building is an
incomplete, thatched roof hut with a dirt floor. Rain or shine, they
still meet! He regularly helps people in his village
and holds other community outreaches, but he needs more support so he
can expand the work.
Paul, Southeast
When Paul was 17, he was stricken with muscular
dystrophy. His parents spent lots of money on various treatments but
nothing worked. For seven
years he struggled with his disease with no hope of anything better. Then a local deaf woman
began
visiting Paul. She would read the Bible out loud and pray over him. Eventually, he
started
believing that God could heal him and he started praying to this God he'd heard so much about. A
seed of
faith had been planted. Eventually, Paul regained enough health to get up out of that hospital bed and he immediately accepted the Lord and
began full-time ministry in 98'. What began as a fellowship with 2
believers has since blossomed into 30, and he started a Hope Home in October of 06' which now cares for 20 kids. He
promised to dedicate
his son to the Lord, and he did so...
Esau, Southeast
The
son that Paul dedicated to the Lord and His work, Esau graduated from
Bible College in 2000. A brilliant student, Esau could have become an
engineer, but chose to serve the Lord full-time
instead. A gifted speaker, teacher and linguist, he does an excellent
job overseeing Hope Homes, worship centers and pastors in his area.
Jeevan, Southeast
Jeevan is currently
caring for his old and feeble parents, infirm
wife and 6 people in his house all together. He is also tending a flock
of 20 believers--most of which live in or around the impoverished Banyan 1 slum outreach.
He is suffering from many problems right now because he has so many
mouths to feed and is surrounded by
uncooperative neighbors. Jeevan knows that he has been called to serve
his poverty-stricken village, but he is in great need of support.
Doni, South
Doni
lived in the USA for several years but felt called back to his homeland
to start a Hope Home for girls. In 2002, he and his wife left the
comforts of the USA and went back to India for good. Doni also holds a
weekly church service in his home with 40 believers attending
regularly. What a testimony of faith!
Saul, South
Saul
runs a home for 11 special children who are infected with HIV. This
amazingly compassionate work is a 24-7 job and requires a heroic amount
of sacrifice. There is an endless list of needs for this work, not the
least of which is monthly support for medicine. Saul also helps run a
local fellowship with 40 believers and actively engages the community
by raising HIV awareness and educating people about the disease. He
identifies Matthew 18:14 as the inspiration and vision for this work.
Babu, South
Babu
currently heads an outreach to two different tsunami-affected villages.
Though they are located next to one another, they have traditionally
been at odds and not gotten along. Babu is hoping to change all that
through his compassionate, fun and dynamic outreach that brings people
from both communities together on common ground. His work is focused on
food and aid distribution along with teaching basic skills such as
sewing, typing and basic business skills. Currently, 175 children are
attending youth services and 22 adults attend the 'grown-up'
fellowship. Babu is also working on his Ph.D.
Roby, South
Pastor Roby lost his wife and mother within a
two-month period in 2007. Despite these traumatic losses, he
continues to faithfully and courageously preach and lead his flock of
15. He would like to start a Hope Home for needy children in his area,
but lacks the resources to do so.
Jamil, South
'J'
is a brilliant young man who has a passion for children's outreach. He
is currently conducting worship services for 30 children and 22 adults
inside his house, but would like to have a building because his
neighbors are less than enthusiastic about the boisterous singing of his group. J is
also helpful to many other local pastors and people. He has recently
taken it upon himself to provide for and look after two orphaned
teenage girls and a recently graduated pastor.
Padman, South
A
recent Bible College grad, he is currently living and working in
ministry with Jamil. Together, they have an excellent outreach
that touches many lives. Padman grew up in the Oleander 3 Hope Home and has overcome a difficult childhood to become a shining light of hope in his community.
