Leprosy, or "Hansen's Disease" is a bacteria that attacks the skin, nerves, limbs and eyes. One of the most ancient, stigmatized and dreaded of all diseases, leprosy is actually quite treatable with proper Multi Drug Therapy. India has an estimated population of 800,000-4 million persons affected by leprosy
Ever since Bishop M.A. visited his first leprosy colony in 1978, he has held a special place in his heart for people with leprosy. The fruit of his passionate efforts has resulted in 100's of leprosy colonies learning trades such as sewing, weaving and candle making, receiving an education and being liberated from their traditional lifestyle of begging for a living.
Often times, infected parents do not want their children to become infected. We have rescued hundreds of children from leprosy-affected neighborhoods and taken them into our Hope Homes where they can grow into healthy adults. Bawani, one of our beloved kids from Andhra Pradesh , is one such girl.
Our goal is to uplift these traditionally downtrodden and forgotten people and help them in any way possible whether through medical care, job training, spiritual guidance, food aid or child care.
