Perhaps the most alarming consequence of the epidemic, in conjunction with other deadly diseases such as malaria and TB, has been the explosion in numbers of orphaned children, with most estimates ranging near one million.

Hopegivers began work here in 2005 and continues to partner with CitiHope International to provide food and medicine to children and people in need.
